8K 65" TV/monitor hunting June 2021 LG 65NANO956NA vs Samsung QE65Q700TA

Options

LG 65NANO956NA vsSamsung QE65Q700TA

LG 65NANO956NA

Cheapest option is LG 65NANO956NA via Amazon £1,200.96, is in stock on Amazon.

It uses Nanocell technology which is IPS technology, good for bright rooms and wider viewing angle.  Less good in poorly lit rooms.  Source of information is tvfindr.com. Local dimming not that good. Looked beautiful in the shop.

Single tuner not double tuner, so no PIP.

HDMI 2.1 according to https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-65nano956na

50 Hz refresh rate

Samsung QE65Q700TA

Next cheapest option is Samsung QE65Q700TA £1375 via Amazon 3rd party seller or £1499 on Argos. Note that £1499 becomes £1424.05 if paying with Health Service Discount Card via Argos online.

QLED is a VA panel which is fundamentally different to Nanocell.  Less bright and its reflection handling is not that good.  Better choice for dark rooms with few light sources.  Contrast ratio is much better and black levels are excellent so better for HDR.  Colours looked over saturated in the shop.

Advantages of the Samsung

  • Anti-reflective coating
  • Satellite input
  • PIP

Disadavantages of the Samsung

HDMI version 2.0 not 2.1.  This means it cannot take 120Hz content at 8k.  https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/samsung/1412441/samsung-q700t.

The panel has a 60Hz refresh rate.  This means it cannot take 120Hz content at 4K either.

Colours looked over saturated in the shop.

Claims to have an anti reflection coating but did not notice the difference with LG in the shop.

What is the same between the two

FreeSat tuner built-in
